Introduction

This department is offering 4-year B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Food & Nutrition Science under the Faculty of Science. Total credit hours of the program are 150 with 8 semesters during 4 years.

Mission

  • Offer a student-centered, prime quality teaching in the field of Food and Nutrition to produce the qualified skilled graduates who will be able to serve time demanding food-related industrial and related sectors
  • To expand basic and applied knowledge in food science and nutrition through scientific research
  • Develop the students as effective researchers in the related field and provide research and professional services facilities to streamline and optimize operations which contribute to the supply of quality food for a better life of the nation
  • Contribute as food engineering professionals in industry, including government or scholarly community
  • Develop the skills to find gainful employment in academics, industry and government organizations.

Message from the Chairman

It is a great pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the Department of Food & Nutrition Science (FNS) under the Faculty of Science at the Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology (Proposed new name Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology) .

Establishment of a hunger free world with safe and secured food is a great challenge for all. SHUST has come up to take the challenge of this crucial issue and opened the Department of Food & Nutrition Science (FNS) with an aim to provide skilled and educated manpower to ensure safe and secured food from farm to fork.

Our department is dedicated to provide a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving field of food and nutrition. In addition, to provide a practical learning experience, students are required to undergo training in various government and non-government agencies as well as in the food industry. In this regard, for providing of education in hand, we increased modern lab facilities i.e. (i) Food Quality Control Lab, (ii) Food Packaging & Preservation Lab, (iii) Food Research Development Lab, (iv) Food Chemistry Lab and (V) Food Microbiology Lab in addition to Physics Lab and Computer Lab with latest configuration. Our faculty members are not only experts in their respective fields but are also passionate about fostering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment.

Our goal is to empower students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations of our country as well as global health through our research, education, and policy outreach activities.
