Professor Dr. Muhammad Azizul Hoque

Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology (Proposed new name Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology)

Professor Dr. Muhammad Azizul Hoque is currently serving as Vice Chancellor (Acting) at Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology (proposed name), approved as Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. A Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Dr. Hoque is on leave of lien from SUST, where he served since 2001, starting as a Lecturer. Over his tenure, he held several key administrative and academic roles, including Head of the Department, Director of the Centre of Excellence, Transport Administrator, and Convener of multiple development projects at SUST.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Environmental) degrees from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia. During his time at USQ, he briefly served as a teaching assistant. Additionally, Dr. Hoque pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of South Australia. With over 23 years of research experience, Dr. Hoque has published more than 50 technical papers in international journals and conferences and supervised numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students.

He played a pivotal role in establishing SUST as a global partner in the prestigious "Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS)" platform, where he served as the Focal Person for the "Masters in Sanitation" program and oversaw student progression within the GSGS project. He also significantly contributed to the Centre for Research, Testing, and Consultancy of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CRTC-CEE, SUST), leading the Supervision Consultant team for the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh's (CAAB) mega-project, "Expansion of Osmani International Airport, Sylhet (1st Phase)," from January 2021 to June 2024.

In addition to his administrative and research contributions, Dr. Hoque actively organized international conferences, including serving as Treasurer for the 5th ICERIE (2019), a member of the Advisory Committee for the 5th ICACE (2020), and Conference Secretary for the 7th ICERIE (2023), all held in Bangladesh. Dr. Hoque continues to make substantial contributions to academia and research, positioning himself as an eminent figure in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
